The HPM5 Tire Gauge is designed for motorsport professionals, offering precise tire pressure and temperature measurements. In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up and use the Quick Functions for Pressure and Temperature, making your workflow faster and more efficient.
What They Do and Why They Were Implemented
The Quick-Function Buttons have been implemented in HPM5 instruments to allow instant configuration of key features needed during track use.
1. Pressure Offset – Hide the Real Pressure Value
The Pressure Offset function lets you apply an offset value to the displayed pressure, concealing the actual measured value. This is useful for strategic purposes, such as hiding your tire pressures from competitors.
- When the offset is active, the display shows the modified value along with the OFFSET indicator, signaling that the displayed pressure is not the actual one.
- You can enable or disable this function at any time using the Quick-Function Buttons.
Example: Offset of 1.1 BAR
- If the real pressure is 1.394 BAR, the display will show 2.494 BAR (1.394 + 1.1).
- This function also works when measuring in PSI.
How to Activate the Pressure Offset Function:
- On the HPM5 base gauge version, Press and Hold the + Button.
- On version with Pyrometer, use the TRACK button ( or S3 button if the instrument also include a Stopwatch ).
The instrument will display the word OFFSET on the screen when the pressure value has an applied offset.
2. Temperature Measurement Modes – Choose Your Preference
HPM5 offers two modes for measuring tire temperature:
- EXT - MID - INT: Follow a predefined sequence measuring from the outer to the inner part of the tire.
- T1 - T12: Measure up to 12 tire temperature points freely, without following a fixed sequence.
3. P/T Mode – Automatic Pressure & Temperature Sequence
With the P/T Mode, the HPM5 automatically switches from Pressure measurement to Temperature measurement, following an optimized sequence displayed on the screen.
How it Works:
Once activated, the instrument will guide you step by step through the following sequence:
- ✅ Measure tire pressure
- ✅ Measure outer tire temperature
- ✅ Measure middle tire temperature
- ✅ Measure inner tire temperature
This process is repeated for all 4 Tires in Car Mode and for 2 Tires in Bike Mode.
How to Activate the P/T Mode:
- On the HPM5 base gauge version, Press and Hold the - Button.
- On version with Pyrometer, use the AIR button.
When enabled, the PT symbol appears on the display.
4. Pitstop Mode – Automate Your Pit Procedures
The Pitstop Mode allows you to quickly measure and adjust tire pressure during a Pit-Stop without pressing additional buttons.
How It Works:
- Insert the gauges.
- Adjust the target Pressure.
- Remove the gauge without pressing any buttons.
The instrument Automatically saves:
- Pit-In Pressure (pressure when entering the pit).
- Pit-Out Pressure (target pressure set before exiting the pit).
How to Activate:
Press and Hold the left MEM Button.
When enabled, the PITSTOP symbol appears on the display.
This function helps teams make fast and efficient Pressure corrections during PitStop.
5. HOT tire Function
By default, each session records cold and hot pressures, along with the difference between them. However, when the HOT function is activated, the session stores only four pressure values (or two for two-wheel vehicles).
When enabled, the HOT symbol appears on the display.
For example, if you only need to measure the pit-in pressures, activating the HOT function allows the instrument to save a session with just the four recorded pressure values.
How to Activate:
Press and Hold the Right MEM Button.
When enabled, the HOT symbol appears on the display.
Why Are These Features Useful?
During HPM5 gauge usage on the track, there are different scenarios where quick and efficient setup is crucial.
Example 1 – Pit-Stop Mode
A race engineer notifies via radio that the car is about to enter the pit for a driver change, and tire pressures must be adjusted to the target value. With Pit-Stop Mode enabled, the instrument automatically records Pit-In and Pit-Out pressures without pressing any buttons.
Example 2 – P/T Mode (Pressure / Temperature)
When a vehicle (Moto or Auto) returns to the pit, Pressure and tread Temperature need to be measured. By enabling P/T Mode, the instrument automatically switches between Pressure and Temperature measurement clearly showing the steps to follow.
With Quick-Function Buttons, the HPM5 series offers greater efficiency, precision, and ease of use, perfectly suited for Professional motorsport.
