How to Configure and Use the HPM5 Tire Pressure Gauges and Pyrometers

The HPM5 tire pressure gauges and pyrometers can be configured through the Prisma Electronics APP or directly from the onboard menu. This guide explains how to set up pressure, temperature, quick functions and stopwatch modes on compatible HPM5 instruments.

In the video below, we show how to configure and use the digital pressure gauge with tire temperature pyrometer and multi-rider stopwatch.

We chose this model because it represents the most complete version of the HPM5 range, including pressure measurement, tire temperature measurement and stopwatch functions.

  • Digital gauge for tire pressure measurement
  • Pyrometer for tire tread temperature measurement
  • Multi-rider stopwatch to time up to 4 drivers with intermediate splits

If you own a model without the pyrometer or stopwatch, you can still follow this guide. If you have only the HPM5 Gauge, some functions such as the Pyrometer and Stopwatch will not be available. If you have the STW Stopwatch, you can skip to the dedicated stopwatch section of the video, starting at minute 03:10.

What Can You Configure on the HPM5?

On HPM5 instruments, you can configure pressure units, temperature units, vehicle type, tire measurement sequence, quick functions and data saving options. Available settings may vary depending on the connected model.

You can configure the instrument using the Prisma Electronics APP or via the onboard menu. The only features that must be set directly from the device menu are the Quick Functions, designed to be quickly enabled or disabled depending on the situation, such as during a pit stop.

How Do You Configure the HPM5 from the Onboard Menu?

To configure the HPM5 from the onboard menu, press the MENU button and follow the button instructions shown on the display. The menu is designed to guide the user through each available setting directly from the instrument.

Configuration via Menu

To access the instrument menu, simply press the MENU button. Once inside the menu, the display shows which buttons to press for each function.

If the instrument language is set to Italian, the menu will appear in Italian. The same applies to English and French.

In Stopwatch mode, the L1/MENU button is also used to time Driver #1. If you briefly press it, the timer for Driver #1 will start. To access the configuration menu, press and hold the button.

Once in the menu, follow the on-screen instructions for each setting.

How Do You Configure the HPM5 with the Prisma Electronics APP?

You can configure compatible HPM5 instruments through the Prisma Electronics APP by connecting the device and opening the Instrument Configuration section. Quick Functions must still be enabled or disabled directly from the instrument menu.

To configure your instrument from a smartphone, use the  Prisma Electronics APP .

Steps:

  1. Connect the instrument to the APP.
  2. Go to “Instrument Configuration”.
  3. View and edit the available settings. Available options vary depending on the connected HPM5 model.

Which Tire Pressure and Temperature Settings Can You Configure?

The HPM5 allows you to configure the main pressure and temperature measurement preferences, including vehicle type, pressure unit, temperature unit, tire sequence and data saving options.

Tire Pressure and Temperature Settings

  • Vehicle type: car or motorcycle
  • Pressure unit: BAR or PSI
  • Temperature unit: Celsius °C or Fahrenheit °F
  • First tire to measure: rear or front
  • Measurement rotation: clockwise or counterclockwise
  • Cold vs hot pressure difference display
  • Automatic saving of hot pressures without pressing any buttons
  • Vehicle number enabled or disabled

Quick Functions

Quick Functions are HPM5 features that can be enabled or disabled directly from the device menu. They are designed for fast use in practical trackside situations, such as pit stops or automatic temperature measurement sequences.

  • Pressure Offset
  • Pit Stop Mode
  • HOT Pressure Function
  • Automatic Pressure/Temperature sequence with 3 different temperature memory modes

How Does the HPM5 Pressure Gauge Mode Work?

The HPM5 pressure gauge mode automatically displays tire pressure as soon as the valve is connected. No button is required to start the pressure reading.

When the instrument is powered on, the display shows the 4 wheels for cars, or 2 wheels for motorcycles, and indicates which tire to start the measurement sequence from.

The measurement starts from the left rear tire, as configured in the instrument settings.

To read the tire pressure, insert the valve into the tire. The instrument automatically displays the pressure value on the backlit screen.

You can store the pressure value by pressing one of the MEM buttons. Repeat the same process for each tire; the device guides you through the entire measurement sequence.

If you want to use the instrument without saving values, simply turn it on, insert the probe into the valve and read the pressure directly on the display.

How Do You Measure Tire Temperatures with the HPM5 Pyrometer?

The HPM5 pyrometer mode allows you to measure and save tread temperature, ambient air temperature and track temperature directly from the instrument. Depending on the selected mode, the device can guide you through each tire section in sequence.

By pressing the MODE button, the instrument switches to Pyrometer mode for measuring and saving tread, ambient air and track temperatures.

You can record up to 12 tread temperature points, plus 1 ambient air temperature value and 1 track temperature value. If one of the automatic temperature modes is enabled, such as EST-CENTER-INT or INT-CENTER-EST, the display tells you where to take the next measurement.

Once the temperature stabilizes, press one of the MEM buttons to save the value. Use the Air and Track buttons to save ambient air temperature and track temperature.

Which HPM5 Models Include Pressure, Pyrometer and Stopwatch Functions?

Not all HPM5 models include the same functions. Some models are designed only for tire pressure measurement, while more complete versions include pyrometer and stopwatch features.

  • HPM5 Gauge: designed for tire pressure measurement.
  • HPM5 with Pyrometer: designed for pressure and tire temperature measurement.
  • HPM5 with Stopwatch: includes timing functions for drivers and intermediate splits.
  • Complete HPM5 versions: combine pressure gauge, pyrometer and multi-rider stopwatch functions.
